Villa close to signing Everton’s Onana for £50m
Aston Villa are close to securing midfielder Amadou Onana from Everton for approximately £50 million. The 22-year-old recently represented Belgium at Euro 2024 and stands to potentially compete in the Champions League next season.
Everton bought Onana from Lille for £33 million in August 2022, and he has played 72 matches for the Toffees since then, scoring four goals. Earlier this year, Arsenal initiated discussions with Onana’s representatives but did not pursue further interest. Villa’s offer reportedly meets Everton’s valuation, despite competition from Manchester United for the midfielder.
Born in Senegal, Onana previously played for Hamburg and developed through the ranks at Hoffenheim following his early training at Anderlecht’s academy.
Villa’s pursuit of Onana comes after selling Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £42.35 million last month. Furthermore, they are close to bringing back Jaden Philogene, the English Under-21 winger, who is expected to come back from Hull City in a deal valued at around £18 million. Villa had included a buy-back clause when they transferred Philogene to Hull last September, beating out Ipswich Town for his signing.
