Motherwell have transferred Canada striker Theo Bair to Auxerre for an undisclosed sum. Last season, the 24-year-old participated in all 38 league matches for Motherwell after leaving Scottish Premiership competitors St Johnstone, where he scored 15 goals. He had one year remaining on his contract.

Bair, who signed a four-year contract with Ligue 1 newcomers Auxerre, departed after returning from Copa America duty. He debuted in the tournament as a substitute during Saturday’s third-place play-off against Uruguay, earning his third cap for Canada.

His exceptional performances at Motherwell resulted in his first national team call-up in four years, and he was honored as the club’s player of the year.

Reflecting on his time at Motherwell, Bair remarked, “My time at the club has been amazing. These have been some of the best moments of my career. I have a deep affection for this club and will always be a supporter. I wish everyone nothing but the best!”

Born in Ottawa, Bair moved from Vancouver Whitecaps to St Johnstone in January 2022 but was released after scoring one goal in 38 games, mostly as a substitute. Nonetheless, Motherwell recognized his commitment to improvement behind the scenes during their ninth-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.

Bair joins Auxerre, who return to the French top division as Ligue 2 champions under head coach Christophe Pélissier. He joins on the same day as 25-year-old defender Gabriel Osho, who earned a call-up to the Nigeria squad in March from Luton Town.
