Burnley have completed the signing of Andreas Hountondji from Caen on a four-year contract, the fee for which remains undisclosed. The 22-year-old forward, who represents Benin internationally, arrives at Turf Moor after an impressive loan stint with Rodez in Ligue 2, where he netted 16 goals across all competitions last season.

Hountondji’s footballing journey includes loan spells with Quevilly-Rouen and Orleans during the 2022-23 campaign, showcasing his development and adaptability in French football. His decision to join Burnley was influenced by the club’s keen interest and reputation for nurturing young talent.

“I opted to come here because of the club’s genuine interest,” Hountondji explained. I chose to come to Burnley because they give chances to young players, and I really love English football.

The young striker highlighted a positive discussion with manager Scott Parker, emphasizing their shared values, principles, and playing philosophy. This alignment played a crucial role in Hountondji’s enthusiasm for joining the Clarets.

Hountondji becomes part of Burnley’s proactive recruitment strategy alongside Lucas Pires from Brazil and Dutch defender Shurandy Sambo, both signing ahead of the upcoming season. Additionally, winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson has committed to another year following his initial release at the end of the previous campaign.

With his blend of youth, international experience, and goal-scoring prowess, Hountondji aims to contribute significantly to Burnley’s ambitions in the challenging landscape of English football. His arrival underscores the club’s commitment to strengthening their squad and maintaining competitiveness in the Premier League.

  1. Great move for him, surely he’ll be great to thrive under Parker who knows how to get going with attacking, possession-based football.
