Brighton Reject Napoli’s Bid For Gilmour
Brighton have rejected an £8m offer from Napoli for Scottish midfielder Billy Gilmour. Sources indicate this bid was seen as preliminary, hinting Napoli may return, confident in completing a transfer.
Gilmour, aged 23, has traveled with Brighton to Japan for a two-match tour. They will play Kashima Antlers on July 24 and Tokyo Verde on July 28, aiming to capitalize on the popularity of Japan international Kaoru Mitoma, who has made a significant impact at the club.
Last season, Gilmour started in 24 Premier League matches and featured in 41 games across all competitions. He joined Brighton for £7.5m in 2022 and remains under contract for two more years.
Napoli, led by former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, finished 10th last season after clinching their first title in 33 years in 2023.
Meanwhile, Brighton are nearing a deal to sign Paraguay international Diego Gomez from Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. Gomez is set to participate in the Olympics this month, delaying his arrival until after the tournament. Discussions over his transfer are reportedly nearing completion, with the fee expected to be around $18m (£13.9m).
