Leyton Orient Sign Wigan Defender Clare
Leyton Orient have secured the services of Sean Clare from Wigan Athletic, marking their latest addition of the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old right-back joins the club for an undisclosed fee after a productive spell with Wigan in League One last season. Clare comes to Orient with extensive experience playing for clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday, Gillingham, Heart of Midlothian, Oxford United, and Charlton Athletic, and he also had loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Burton Albion.
Despite having two years remaining on his contract with Wigan, Clare opted for a new challenge and has committed to a three-year deal with Leyton Orient, reinforcing their defensive options significantly.
Speaking about the acquisition, head coach Richie Wellens expressed his satisfaction with the signing, highlighting Clare’s versatility and competitive edge. “In that right-back area, he will give us a lot of options. He will provide competition for Tom James and also gives Jayden Sweeney competition, as TJ can play both sides,” Wellens commented on the club’s official website.
Clare becomes the fifth player to join Orient during this transfer window, following the earlier arrivals of Sonny Perkins, Charlie Kelman, Diallang Jaiyesimi, and Lewis Warrington. Orient views adding him as a strategic move to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season, demonstrating their ambition to improve key positions and gain a competitive edge in the league.
The acquisition of Clare underscores Leyton Orient’s proactive approach in the transfer market, aiming to build a squad capable of achieving their ambitions in the upcoming campaign. With his experience and versatility, Clare is poised to make a significant contribution to the team’s defensive setup and overall performance on the pitch.
